For refreshing relaxation indicated the Makriammos, Glyfada, Golden Beach in Skala Potamias, Golden Beach in Skala Panagia, Paradisos bay, the fine sand Aliki, the Pefkari and this old Mines in Limenaria. Unique in their kind are also the physical font of Gkiola and the beach with the white, marble pebbles, named Marble or Saliara. We suggest that you go round the island to locate private bays and beaches for personal exploration!
The beating heart of Thassos is without doubt Limenas, the island’s capital, with the sea on one side and dense pine forest on the other. Meanwhile, the cobbled streets, elegant small shops, restaurants and places that give off the smell of ouzo create a lively and warm atmosphere that rivals the most cosmopolitan island. Moving to the coastal zone, the choices multiply for visitors. Beach bars, cafes and taverns stretching along the coast for those seeking a refreshing or tasty break. Finally, the ancient theater of Limenas or else the little “Epidaurus” as characterized by the local people, is a worthwhile proposal for a night out, as many musical and theatrical performances are organized during the summer season. The recreational happenings, together with the light of the August moon and the smell of pine, the verdant grove that surrounds the ancient theater will undoubtedly leave an unforgettable feeling.
For lovers of good food is the ideal destination for small villages and large Kazabiti and Theologos, villages that will make you feel like you are in the Pindos or Zagoria. Stone mansions, as the Xatzigiorgi inTheologos, who has turned into a folk museum, with wooden balconies, squares with trees, cobbled streets, cafes and taverns offering local delicacies and create an ideal mountain vacation profile.
The ultimate destination for nightlife and sightseeing in cosmopolitan atmosphere is Potos, just 11 miles from our village, where you can enjoy a walk by the sea or inthe local market and buy some souvenirs or traditional products such as honey, sweet delicacies, olives or olive oil. Limenaria that are only 6 km from Skala Maries are also a great choice for a meal in a traditional tavern or a night out.
Meanwhile, if you are interested in water sports, Pefkari and Potos offer a wide range of activities in the liquid element, while for lovers of riding the three horse riding clubs of the island can offer you a unique experience in locations and routes of natural beauty, which are not accessible by other means of transport.
Finally, you can enjoy a day-trip around the island with several tourist boats that take you around to many “hidden” beaches during the journey. Moreover, you have the opportunity for a day cruise on the third leg of Halkidiki, a guided tour along the wooded Athos, the sacred mount of Christianity with their precious treasures and Byzantine relics.
