Four ideas for exploring Thassos from Skala Maries. Combine sea and mountains, short journeys and longer days out.
A day on the west coast.
Start slowly in Skala Maries, head up to Maries for a shady village square and continue towards the lake if time allows. Return to the coast for the changing light before sunset.
Follow the southern coast.
Limenaria, Potos and Astris make a varied series of stops. Giola and Archangel Michael Monastery can form part of a longer outing. Allow extra time to walk from the parking area to Giola.
The mountain side of Thassos.
Choose Theologos or Kazaviti for stone lanes, quiet squares and island flavours. Leave your plans a little open: the best stop is often the one you did not plan.
A day in Limenas.
Explore the old harbour and archaeological sites, then continue towards Panagia or Potamia. Make a day of it, with a few thoughtfully chosen stops and no need to rush.
